Are carbine gasses still the best?

Considering how much parts and ammo have evolved, is there any good reason to stick with carbine gas for a typical 16" configuration?

Carbine gas systems still work but a mid-length gas system feels smoother on a 16-inch rifle. With the buffers and springs we have now, I don't see much reason to pick a carbine gas system, unless you're trying to get a very specific setup.

Yeah, they still do the job well for most people. Sure, there are newer setups that run smoother but the basic design often performs without fuss.
