I’m putting together a 16" mid-length AR, and my dealer’s giving me some options for the gas port sizes .070", .075" and 080". Since I plan on running it suppressed most of the time, I’m wondering which size would be best to avoid over-gassing. Any thoughts?

If you're looking for a little more versatility, like being able to easily swap between suppressed and unsuppressed shooting, a .075" port would be fine. Team it up with an adjustable gas block or a heavier buffer, and you'll find you have a lot more control over how everything works together.

If I were building this myself, I’d definitely go with a .070" gas port for a suppressed 16" mid-length AR. Suppressors tend to increase backpressure, and having a smaller port really helps manage that. Keeps everything from getting too gassy and protects your internals. And it just makes for a smoother shooting experience overall. And I’d absolutely recommend pairing it with an adjustable gas block too. That way, you can fine-tune it if you ever want to run it without a suppressor or switch up your ammo. It sounds like you’re kicking things off on the right foot!
