There are two N-Frame S&W revolvers for sale near me. One is a 6" pre-Model 28 5 screw Highway Patrolman, and the other is a blue 6" Model 57 (no dash). The HP looks like it was holster carried a lot. However, it seems tight with almost no end shake. The Model 57 is in pretty decent shape, but has the wrong stocks on it (speedloader cutout instead of football cutout).

The HP is $695 and the 57 is $995.
 
As I'm a shooter rather than a collector, I'd go with the HP, assuming it's good to go
They are both shooter grade, so either will fit the bill. I have several of each caliber and enjoy shooting them all. The HP would definitely be cheaper to feed, even handloading. My favorite though is .45 Colt. Easier to see the holes in the target from a distance.
