Do you switch between different carry guns, or do you have one that you always carry? I’ve been using my G19 for almost everything.

Once I retired and was free to carry whatever I wanted I carry different sidearms depending on the situation. My Glock 27 fits well in a cargo pocket or on my ankle. My S&W Model 13-4 3" is light and easy to carry, and very accurate. I carry a 1911 in 10mm or .45 ACP often, usually when the weather is cooler.

Before retirement I was restricted to a Glock 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 27, or 43. I was issued or carried all of them except the 17 and 23.

Carry gun around people is consistently my Sig P365XL. I spend more time in the forest or out on my ranch and carry either one of the .45 ACPs or my ,357 revolver it all depends on the nature of the tracks I have seein.

I've been down that road myself over the last few years. I love semi-autos, but revolvers just have that special place in my heart. I mix it up a bit depending on my outfit, but my top choices are the S&W 642 and the Model 60. The 642 is so easy to hide in a pocket holster and is simple while the Model 60 gives me a bit more control when I want to carry it on my belt. I've also tried out an LCR in .38, and I really liked how it managed recoil for such a light firearm. It's not flashy, but it does its job effectively. If you're already at ease with the 442, a steel J-frame or even a small K-frame could be a nice next step without feeling like a huge jump.

That makes a lot of sense to me. The environment really influences the choice. In town and around crowds, the P365XL is a nice choice. But when you're out in areas where 4legged issues are more of a concern, having a .45 or a .357 just makes sense. But I find myself in the middle ground. Most days, I stick to one reliable carry because I appreciate the familiarity, but if I know I’ll be spending time outdoors, I’m open to switching to something with a bit more firepower. I just think that as long as you’re training with what you carry and making choices based on realistic situations, there’s no wrong choice. ;)
