Currently building a 18” suppressed 7SAUM on a long bolt stop Tikka. Would love to hear hunting loads from those that have worked with short barreled SAUM’s before.

Thanks

When it comes to shooting with shorter barrels, bullets weighing between 160-175gr really hit that sweet spot. Well at least for me.

Yeah I agree, this one will be fed a steady diet of 162 Eldx or 165 TGK’s if all goes to plan.

If you’re after elk or other big game, you’ll want to go for bonded or monolithic bullets since they really dig in for deeper penetration. But if you’re hunting deer or similar-sized critters, you can’t go wrong with ELD-X or VLD bullets.

I don’t mind bonded or mono bullets and have killed plenty of deer and elk with them. But in honesty, I have killed more elk with ELDX and Sierra game changers, much faster kills and generally a more accurate hunting rifle. Especially with a shorter barrel, these bullets are not going to be screaming. ELDX are plenty tough when started at only 2750 or so…
