What's the future of service pistols?

Do the newest service handguns actually show any real advancement or are they simply the same old designs with a fresh coat of paint?

Service pistols are getting better coatings and are easier to add red dots to. But the mechanics are pretty great already. The real improvements now are in the materials used and how you can change things around, not totally new designs.

Pistol designs are old and follow several basic patterns...even the first striker-fired semi-automatic pistol is old; it was the Hugo Borchardt C-93, designed in 1883.
