I have a Ruger SP101 revolver that I use as my working EDC. It has an adjustable rear sight and I think I want to put a red dot on it. The red dot should be strong enough to handle the shock of .357 mag rounds, should not drift, have a shake and wake battery system and the battery needs to be replaceable without removing the red dot. I am looking for advice on which red dot to buy.

My former agency does a ton of optics testing. They chose the Trijicon RMR Type 2 06 (3.25 MOA) and 07 (6.5 MOA). I don't know if they make a mount for a Ruger revolver though.

For smaller firearms they approved the RMR cc06/07.

I had a Trijicon on my Sig and it was an excellent red dot. I think I want a 3 MOA dot in green. There are several manufacturers of adapter plates that will work on the Ruger Revolvers. I thought about an enclosed RD but it would have to ride on a plate screwed to the adapter and I want the RD to be as low as possible.

For an SP101, I'd definitely go with a Holosun 507K or a 407K, you'd just need an adapter plate. It's got that shake-awake feature, the battery loads from the side and it can really handle magnum recoil....That's pretty much all you need.

I did buy the plate and a Holosun 507C with the Primary Arms Chevron. I decided to make the SP101 my nightstand and home defense revolver and Imput a red laser on it. In DA it works great using .38 personal defense ammo. I also bought a GP100 revolver (after firing 100 rounds of .357 mag ammo. The revolver will arrive next week and the adapter plate and Holosun will go on it. Craft holster for the GP100 and red dot should be there late May. Until then my 1911 Commander will ride with me.

You’ve basically built a full system there, each piece clearly has a purpose and job in your lineup
