Got a trip planned to see some family, and I’m trying to figure out the best route to take. I want to bring my firearm along, but going through New York State is making things more complicated than I thought. I know some folks may have experience with this kind of situation. Avoiding NY would add a ton of extra driving, which isn't ideal. Just wondering how others have navigated this or what routes you’ve found that work well. I’m open to suggestions or any tips you might have.

That is a conundrum. I too have relatives in NY and NJ and it is always a pain to plan for.

If you're looking for the safest way to go, it might be best to completely avoid NY. It adds a few miles to your trip, but heading through Pennsylvania and into Ohio could be your smartest option. I’ve heard mixed stories from people who’ve tried driving through NY. Some say they had no issues at all as long as they stuck to FOPA rules, but others ran into trouble, especially if they had to stop for any reason.
