I've been carrying 9mm for a while now, and I'm curious about what others are using for self-defense. What hollow points have you found to be the most reliable in terms of performance on the range and in real situations?

I like this 135 grain 9mm +P. I carried it for a long time and have a bunch left.

While there are good and mediocre SD rounds, key is placement and reliability. You need to find a round that works reliably in YOUR gun with repeatable accuracy.

Also, keep in mind, what works great in the summer, may fail in winter given the heavy winter clothing we all wear……

I just started using some of the g9 subs in my EDC. Super accurate and low recoil. Really like it for EDC - SD

This is an often-debated question, the correct answer is, "It Depends." Is the bad guy 6 foot 2inches, 110-pound meth head wearing a t-shirt, or a 6 foot 4 inches, 360-pound offensive lineman that's just been cut form the Las Vegas raiders, wearing a leather jacket, heavy flannel shirt and long underwear in the dead of winter?

There's not a "on size fits all" situations solution. Pick a good hollow point from a reputable manufacturer that you know runs well in your gun.

The odds of needing to shoot someone in self defense are low, but never zero, the odds of your round being effective are high but never 100%.

Good hits in a high-pressure encounter is more important than having the perfect projectile for the situation.

Keep an eye out for how smoothly everything feeds, ejects, and hits the target. If you can, have a chronograph to see if the velocities are consistent. Some guns can be pretty picky when it comes to bullet profiles, so it's definitely something to watch for.
