Aftermarket barrels don’t come cheap. For those who’ve taken the plunge, what noticeable differences did you find over the stock barrel? In hindsight, do you feel those upgrades were worth the money?
I had a Remington 700 .270 rebarreled with a Shilen varmint contour in .25-06. The .270 was a gift to me...it had been left in a closet and one of the guy's kids had hung a wet washcloth on the end of the barrel! Rusted so bad you could not see down the bore.
The Shilen worked extremely well. It will stack 100 grain Core-Lokts into one hole at 100 yards all day long. Well worth the expense. Now I can take prairie dogs at 400 yards if I do my part.
I threw a fancy barrel in my carry gun thinking my groupings would get super tight. And they kinda did... but only when I was using a rest. It might be good for competition, but for everyday carry? Probably not worth it.
