What’s your go-to caliber when it comes to deer hunting? If you were mostly taking shots under 300 yards, which caliber would you pick?

My go-to for deer is the .270 Winchester in a Remington Model 700. It works well from the muzzle to 500 yards.

Yep, my pet deer rifle is a .270, in a Winchester model 70 feather weight. In that light rifle, it kicks at least as hard as any of my .300 magnums..... But it's a pleasure to pack around in the mountains.... And it shoots stupid accurate with my hand loads...

My favorite for Elk and other big critters is my Remington 673 Guide Rifle in .350 Remington Magnum. A 250 grain Nosler partition at 2,600 fps is hard to argue with in such a small easily portable rifle.
